FAQs
about Volunteering at Junior Achievement’s Discovery Centers
What is the time commitment?
8:00 am- 2:30 pm. If you need to leave a little early, please let us know in advance. To fully impact the student's learning, we encourage volunteers to commit to the entire time frame.
Is there a dress code?
Business casual with comfortable shoes and a light jacket. Feel free to wear a branded shirt to represent your organization. Please limit any additional personal items, purses, and computer bags as there is no private or locked space available.
Do I need to prepare anything before volunteering?
No, just bring your energy and positivity! If you'd like to review additional info, please explore the volunteer resource pages throughout the site.
What are my transportation/ parking options?
Please refer to the logistics page by site, Atlanta or Gwinnett.
Will breakfast and lunch be available?
For breakfast, there is complimentary coffee available but no breakfast onsite or nearby. Please plan to eat before you arrive.
For lunch, volunteers and students will get a 20 minute working lunch. The Chick-fil-A Foundation has graciously provided lunches for all volunteers, which includes a Chick-fil-A Chicken Sandwich. If you have dietary restrictions, please plan to bring your lunch.
Is there an age limit to the event?
All volunteers must be 18 years or older.
Can I bring my child with me?
JA BizTown and JA Finance Park is only available to the schools attending that day. Outside students are not allowed to attend. No child care service is available.
Do I get a break while I am volunteering?
Yes, all volunteers get a short lunch break during the lunch rotation. Volunteers will have about 20 minutes for their break.
Do I need to have prior finance knowledge?
No, Volunteers do not need to have a financial or business background. Junior Achievement provides all the information and material for volunteers in JA BizTown and JA Finance Park.
Do I get training to work with the students?
Volunteers will receive training prior to the student’s arrival. Junior Achievement staff will also be supporting volunteers throughout the day. We encourage volunteers to give their real life experience and advice to the students throughout the day.
Is this a field trip? Can I just chaperone?
This is not a field trip and we don't use traditional 'chaperones'. We ask that all adults (that are not teachers) be prepared to volunteer, meaning you will be directly involved with a small group of students and support with hands-on learning. JA BizTown and JA Finance is a very interactive learning experience!

WE WANT VOLUNTEERS TO ENJOY THIS EXPERIENCE AS MUCH AS THE STUDENTS
The best thing you can bring with you is a POSITIVE ATTITUDE!
